Rory Garland’s work is shaped by a mix of craftsmanship, experimentation and lived experience. Drawing on his background as a carpenter and furniture maker, he works across paint, timber, clay and plaster, often building and finishing his own frames by hand.

His ideas come from everywhere, dreams, nature, books, ancient philosophy and personal experience. Some works begin with careful planning, others are instinctive and allowed to develop as he works.

At the heart of it is a sense of play and exploration. Each piece carries something personal, but its meaning is never fixed. Rory leaves space for the viewer to find their own story within the work.
